Summary

Westbound CPKC train 805 collided with stationary CPKC train 301 near Greely, British Columbia after the crew missed a Clear-to-Stop signal and misread a subsequent Restricting indication; four locomotives and four cars derailed, two fires broke out, roughly 17,500 litres of diesel and 400 tons of grain spilled, and both crew members on train 805 were injured. TSB's final report found no physical fail-safe train-control backup existed in the signaled territory and issued a safety advisory calling for PTC-like protection after this and three similar restricting-signal events.
